Course Description: Nationwide, courts are moving towards the use of evidence-based risk assessment tools because they help guarantee that a pretrial release decision is based on the individual's risk of failure to appear or the threat that he or she poses to public safety rather than the individual's ability to pay bail. This instills greater fairness and consistency into the process.
On March 21, 2019, the Nevada Supreme Court, at the recommendation of the JCSN’s Committee to Study Evidence-Based Pretrial Release, filed an Order Adopting Statewide Use of the Nevada Pretrial Risk Assessment.
In preparation for statewide implementation of the NPRA, three, individual courses are offered, providing focused training for Judges, attorneys, or court staff and other stakeholders who will complete the assessment. These sessions will address a variety of topics including the work of the Committee to Study Evidence-Based Pretrial Release; the development, validation, and implementation processes behind the Nevada Pretrial Risk Assessment; methods for utilizing the tool; and strategies for overcoming challenges.
